1. ERTUGRUL GHAZI

Ertugrul Gazi was the son of Suleyman Shah, leader of the nomadic Kayi tribe from the steppes of Central Asia

In Turkish Muslim history, Ertugrul was a brave warrior and leader of Kayi Clan of Oghuz Turks. He was a man of wisdom, a true believer, and an excellent war strategist who gave Byzantines and Mongols a tough time. He came into the picture with his army of 400 horsemen to help Sejuks of Rum. His bravery and strong leadership set the foundation for the mighty Ottoman Empire founded by Osman, son of Ertugrul Ghazi.

Ertugrul is often referred to as a Ghazi, a heroic champion fighter for the cause of Islam. Ertugrul Ghazi’s full name is bin Suleman Shah and sometimes he is also referred to as Ertugrul bin Gunduz Alp.

Suleman Shah (Grand Father of the Osman of Ottoman Empire ) was the father of Ertugrul Ghazi. Suleman Shah was the leader of the Kayi Tribe who fled from western Central Asia to Anatolia to escape the Mongols.

Ertugrul Ghazi Bey’s first and only wife was Halima Hatun. She was a strong woman who was a true matriarch in the tribe and an important figure in life of Ertugrul Ghazi’s history. According to historians, Halima Hatun was the daughter of Melik Izeddin, the ruler of SelijukThe tomb of the Muslim warrior from the Turkish Islamic history is in Turkey. The current mausoleum was built by Sultan Abdul Hamid II in the late 19th century. The town of Sogut celebrates an annual festival to the memory of the early Osman.

The Turkish television series Dirilis Ertugrul is based on his life. Ertugrul Ghazi is portrayed by Engin Altan Duzyatan in the series. The series spans over 5 seasons consisting of around 150 episodes.

Ertugrul Ghazi is thought to have passed away in Sogut at the age of 90 in the late 1290’s.
